Did you know that every child in Germany has the right to education and support, regardless of their parents’ income? The “Education and Participation” education package makes this possible. In this article, you will find out how the education package works and what you need to do to receive free tutoring.
The education and participation package supports families
There are many families in Germany who are unable to afford necessary educational services, such as tutoring for their children. The German government supports these families financially so that all children can participate in social and school life.
Who is entitled to the education package?
The following people are entitled to support from the education package:
- Children, adolescents and young adults who receive social assistance or citizen’s allowance
- Children, adolescents and young adults whose parents receive housing benefit or child supplement
- Asylum seekers who receive benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act
- Children, teenagers and young adults whose parents earn enough but do not have enough money for special educational needs. This is called “needs triggering”
Free tutoring and learning support
Imagine if your child could finally get the help they need to do better at school. Wouldn’t it be nice if your child had more self-confidence and enjoyed going to school? The BuT education program is there to help with this.
Incidentally, your child can also receive the subsidized tutoring if he or she is not at risk of failing. You can apply for learning support if there is no comparable tutoring program at your child’s school.
How to apply for BuT
- If you receive citizen’s allowance, your job center is responsible for this.
- Do you receive social assistance, housing benefit, child supplement or benefits for asylum seekers? Then ask the town hall, citizens’ office or district administration for the right contact person.
